Types of Braces Available

Metal Braces
Metal braces are the most common. They are made of high grade stainless steel. Today's braces are much smaller and more comfortable. Therefore they are much more attractive. Most of the patients like to dress up the braces with different color elastics that can be changed at each appointment. Multiple colors are available.

Ceramic Braces
Cosmetic braces are a translucent tooth colored (clear) material. They are most popular with the adult patients. They are difficult to see on the teeth unless you are very close to the patient. The only drawbacks to these brackets are they are more fragile and the elastic ties that hold the wire to the bracket can discolor between orthodontic visits.

Invisalign (No Braces)
The Invisalign System is a series of clear overlay templates that have been generated by computer simulation to gradually move the teeth into position. Dr. Angle is an Invisalign Certified Orthodontist. She has treated many adults, as well as mature teens with this innovative system.

How Orthodontic Treatment Works
Orthodontic brackets are bonded to the teeth with an adhesive made for the teeth. By placing a constant, gentle force in a carefully controlled direction on the teeth, braces slowly move teeth into a corrected position. This is a great time to wear braces! Wires are less noticeable than they used to be and the latest materials move teeth faster with less discomfort to patients. You can choose brackets that are clear or metallic color. You can choose the color of the ties that hold the wire to the brackets.

Duration of Treatment
For comprehensive orthodontic treatment, the length of treatment typically ranges from 18 months to 2 years, depending on the growth of the patient's mouth and face and the severity of the problem. Some early limited orthodontic treatments can take as little as 6 months. Patients grow at different rates and will respond variously to orthodontic treatment, so the time to case completion may differ from the original estimate. The patient's cooperation of rubber bands or headgear is an important factor in achieving the most efficient treatment.
